Making an Application
Important! Please read this page carefully before completing the application form. Do ’phone for advice if you’re unsure (01981 580002).
Please check our list of exclusions first. If you are satisfied your organisation’s purpose is not in the exclusions list then please read through the following:
Please do not apply if:
:: You are not a charity registered in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. We only support registered charities; we do not support individuals or CICs or not-for-profit organisations.
:: Your proposed application is for capital costs. We do not support capital expenditure.
:: A large proportion of your users are not young people.
:: Your reserves are in excess of six months expenditure. We understand that any well-run organisation should have money set aside to cope with changes in funding and to be able to meet their commitments. However, if your 'free' (unrestricted or designated) reserves are more than six months' running costs it is unlikely we would fund. If there is a specific reason your reserves are higher please call to discuss further – 01981 580002 – before applying.
If your application is not ruled out by the above criteria or the areas covered in the Exclusions page then please continue.
Grant Policy
:: Grant policy is prevention rather than cure.
:: Four Acre supports charities registered in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, working within the sectors described.
:: Grants can be for core costs or specific purposes, but applications must clearly show what the need is and how it is to be met.
:: Grants range from £3,000 to £75,000.
Applying
:: Trustees meet in February, April, June, August, October and December. Applications are usually processed within three months.
:: All applicants are visited by one of our field officers to discuss how we can best become a supporter. We reply to all applications.
:: While first grants will be one-off, we wish to build long-term relationships with recipients and will continue funding beyond one year, providing the physical and financial need continues.
:: A condition of our grant is that a brief but full report is made on the outcome.
:: We will consider failed lottery bids.
:: Accounts must be published within six months of the year end.
We receive more applications than we have funds to support. Therefore, Trustees limit grants by supporting those organisations judged to offer best value. Four Acre Trust prefers to support local, district or small national organisations that have low reserves and broadly spend all their income on charitable works. We are particularly interested in supporting charities that have a high level of volunteer involvement.
Applications should be made using the Trust’s Application Form:
